"Vedutili, egli disse loro: «Andate a mostrarvi ai sacerdoti». E, mentre andavano, furono
purificati." (Luca 17:14 NR)
"So when He saw them, He said to them, "Go,
show yourselves to the priests." And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed." (Luke
17:14 NKJV)
-------
One of the many things I love about La Parola di Dio, the
Word of God, is that there are so many different ways Jesus gave healing to
those who were sick.
Luca 17 tells one of those ways that I just find so amazing.
It's the story of ten lebbrosi, lepers, who came
to Jesus, seeking to be healed, guarito. But here's the
thing. Jesus, Gesù
didn't touch them as he often did. He told them in 17:14 to Andate a mostrarvi ai sacerdoti, go and show yourselves to the priest. And what was the
significance of this?
Back in those days, lebbrosi were considered to be unclean and had to live
outside the city/village. And if ever they needed to come inside the city they
had to warn people by crying out "unclean."
The only
way they could live and move freely within the city would be if for whatever
reason, the leprosy was gone from their bodies. And this had to be verified by
a priest.
(Stay with me, I'm trying to bring out a point.)
So any time i lebbrosi felt they were clean of the disease, they knew the law… Andate a mostrarvi ai
sacerdoti, go show yourselves to the priests. (Are you starting to see where I'm going
with this?)
This is why Gesù gave them this instruction. He would of
course provide the healing, la guarigione, but la guarigione of this particular disease had to involve i sacerdoti.
And this is the part I really like. Normally, you would go to il sacerdote, after you were healed. But Gesù sends them on their way
to i sacerdoti without first giving them their guarigione. Isn't this just like nostro Dio, our God.
He sent
the lepers to the priests to be pronounced clean… But when He gave the
instruction, they were still unclean! He did it this way because He knew, they
would receive their healing along the way.
And sure enough, la Bibbia tells us, also in Luca
17:14 that mentre
andavano, (while they went), furono purificati… they were purified or cleansed or healed.
Bottom line, we have to trust that if nostro Dio sends us
somewhere without the thing we'll need once we arrive, it means it will be
provided along the way.
Excellent insight Marcie, as usual. Thank you for adding the memory verse section. . .adds a little extra push to learn the Italian. I pray that your Easter, la risurrezione del nostro Signore Gesú, was blessed and edifying to your spiritual walk. Amen.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the post and the new weekly memory verse. I've got lots of ideas and plans for the site in the days to come. (...And I hope you got the email I sent you a little while back. If not, check your junk mail.)
