Hi, I'm Marcie and I'm so glad you've found your way to this site.
I am first and foremost a Christian; a Christian who loves God and loves His Word.
And just to tell you a few other things about me, I work with computers and have started my own training, consulting and programming business. I'm also an NBA basketball fan. Overall, I love helping people and I love using my different skills and interests to do so. But let's get to why we're here.
Over time, like so many others, I've found myself drawn to the many facets of Italian life and culture. The food of course; but other things as well. It wasn't long before I decided that I needed to join the millions of people worldwide who have journeyed to Italy itself, to have a fuller and more authentic experience of all things Italian.
But as so often happens, a million and one things seemed to have come up since then and I have not yet been able to make my journey.
I will at some point, (not too far in the future I hope). But in the meantime, I've decided to learn the Italian language. Hopefully, I'll be able to speak the language well by the time I actually get there.
So shortly after I started learning the Italian language, it dawned on me. What better way to practice than to read the Bible as I regularly do, but in Italian! (Thank God for the Internet where I was able to find the Italian Bible online.) And as I started reading the long familiar Word of God, in this new language; something happened that I didn't expect.
First of all, though still in the early learning stages, I was pleasantly surprised by how much of it I was able to understand. But more importantly, I found that as I started reading God's Word in Italian, I began to see things in the Italian language version I'd never seen while reading in English. I began to experience and understand the Word of God in a whole new dimension… It was awesome!
Now don't get me wrong, I am in no way suggesting that there's more to the Italian version of the Bible than the English or any other version. It's just that this was new and different. Reading in Italian brought out different shades of meaning that I didn't get from the English.
I've been reading and studying the Bible for years, and it never gets old. There's always something fresh and new that God shows me and something new to learn; even from the same passage. But reading in Italian isn't just new, it's like new-new! It hasn't replaced my study in the English, but it has definitely enhanced it.
So I am definitely enjoying reading the Word of God in Italian but I have to say that I am far from knowing this beautiful language as much as I'd like. But what I do know though, is the Bible.
I have been both a student and a teacher of the Bible for many years now. I attended Bible school fairly early in my Christian walk and have also gone on to teach in a Bible school, as well as teaching individual Bible classes and workshops. I just love sharing with others the things that God shows and teaches me in His Word.
So I guess it's the teacher in me who feels compelled to share the insights I discover as I read through His Word in Italian… Even though I haven't yet mastered the language. I seem to have been this way for a long time now.
I remember when I was learning algebra in Junior High school. The teacher knew her stuff but there were some topics she wasn't so good at explaining. I was still able to pick it up, I guess because I just loved math so much. But I remember that some of my classmates sitting next to me sometimes couldn't follow what she was saying. So right in the middle of class, I'd explain to them, what I had just learned. And they got it! "Oh," they responded. "Why didn't she just say that."
Now of course I was far from knowing everything about algebra, but for some reason I was able to (and actually enjoyed), quickly communicate and teach what I'd learned so far. Fast forward several years and I'm still doing the same thing. I guess I'm just a student who really loves to learn and who loves to share what I've learned with others.
So with all this in mind, sharing the insights I see as I read through the Bible in Italian, just seemed like the thing to do.
I'm on a journey. A journey to read through the entire New Testament in Italian and I'm on a journey to share what I learn as I learn it. I hope that you will join me on this journey.
And it's my prayer that as I make this journey God will open my understanding and help me to learn the language better; and do the same for others as well. Because for me, this is more than just a one year journey through the New Testament, in Italian. It's really…
My journey to Italy… through the Bible.
